The city that never sleeps is ready for action. Based on Jessel Taank’s recent comments, Season 16 of The Real Housewives of New York is coming to life. And the network will be sharing some updates in the coming weeks.
Poor ratings and performance from Season 15 left the series in limbo. The rebooted cast were down Brynn Whitfield and Rebecca Minkoff, after the duo decided to leave the show. A lot was left to speculation, even after Andy Cohen gave RHONY the green light to resume production after the disastrous season.
Jessel Taank says RHONY Season 16 is “definitely in the works”
“It’s definitely in the works,” Jessel told E! News. “There will be several announcements coming soon.”
After firing the entire veteran cast for Season 14, it could only be a “trial and error” process before the network got it right. Season 15 certainly felt like a failure. But new cast members have supposedly been hired.
“They’ve never done anything like this before. Sometimes they’re going to get it right on the first try. Sometimes they won’t,” the fashion editor explained. “It’s really a balance of personalities. You can never predict how that’s going to unfold.”
Jessel suggested that the focus of Season 16 should be a bit more whimsical, and also empowering. She said, “I really want to show the true DNA of New York, fashion, a little bit of drama woven in there. But a window into six women’s lives that are doing it all.”
The mother-of-two is not surprised that viewers didn’t initially take to the rebooted cast. Jessel called it “a tough pill to swallow for a lot of people.” However, she is convinced that RHONY is moving in the right direction.
“We had really big shoes to fill. They really procured a very strong fan base. So, all of a sudden, just erase that from memory, and then like, say, ‘Oh, we’re gonna try something new,'” Jessel explained.
“But I genuinely believe that we are the girls to do it, and that the network is making the right move.” she concluded.
