Mary Cosby’s marriage to her grandmother’s second husband was the source of many questions for Real Housewives of Salt Lake City viewers. It was described as an arranged marriage, and the dying wishes of Mary grandmother’s. The RHOSLC favorite also explained that her inheritance depended upon the union.
Indeed, the Cosbys make up a dynasty of sorts within their church. The Faith Temple Pentecostal Church was founded by Mary’s grandmother. Certainly, faith and duty played a role in the marriage. But Mary recently shared that her union with Robert Cosby Sr. is one of true love as well.
Mary Cosby calls husband Robert Sr. her “rock”
The RHOSLC star told People that after 27 years together, she and Robert “still love each other.” Mary added, “I haven’t turned him off. He still cooks for the family, and he’s our rock.”
Robert does not appear on camera anymore. But he is still a massive support to Mary behind the scenes. For her part, she appreciates their enduring connection.
“He always knows what to say, and he always knows how to say it,” the Bravolebrity revealed. “Truly, I told him the day before I came here, like, ‘You really know me, and I love that.’ You can be married to someone and have no clue who they are even after 30 years especially when the kids get older and you stop being a mom and you have to be a wife again. You almost have to relearn your husband. But I actually know him.”
Their biggest challenge to date has been their son’s sobriety journey. Mary shared conversations with Robert Cosby Jr. on camera, and detailed how difficult it’s been to provide the right kind of support. But the RHOLSC star can rely on her husband to do everything he can to help their 22-year-old.
“I see us just getting old together, and I’ll be always standing there,” Mary admitted. “He’s just this solid piece in my life and my son’s life, and we couldn’t do it without him. We could not live life without him.”
Acknowledging her grandmother, Rosemary Cosby’s, request that Mary “take her place,” the reality TV star explained that it was a compensation of sorts.
Mary explained, “My grandmother told me, for herself, that she wanted me to take her place. Basically, Robert Sr. was 20 years younger than my grandmother. My grandmother felt like she robbed his youth. So she said, ‘If something ever happens, I want you to marry one of my girls, because I know that they will be loyal to you and treat you good like you treated me.'”
