Donald Trump Gets McDonald’s DoorDashed to Oval Office For Major Promotion

A DoorDash delivery driver found herself making an unexpected stop at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on Monday, handing two bags of McDonald’s directly to President Donald Trump on the White House colonnade. The meal delivery created a moment to promote the president’s “no tax on tips” initiative just two days ahead of the 2025 tax filing deadline.

Donald Trump turned a food delivery into a tax policy showcase on April 13, receiving two bags of McDonald’s from a DoorDash driver on the colonnade outside the West Wing. The driver, Sharon Simmons, handed over his preferred fast food before being personally tipped a $100 bill by President Trump and given a tour of the Oval Office.

“This doesn’t look staged,” he joked with reporters, before pivoting to the legislative goal of the photo opportunity. “The no tax on tips is something special. It’s very special,” Trump said. When asked if Simmons received a good tip for the DoorDash delivery, Donald Trump reached into his pocket, pulled out money, and handed it to her. “Yes,” Simmons confirmed (via New York Post).

The White House later clarified that the bags contained cheeseburgers and fries. Simmons, who wore a red t-shirt with “DoorDash Grandma” written, told the president the order included “your favorites.”

The event shone a spotlight on Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which exempts up to $25,000 in tipped income from federal taxation for eligible people earning under $150,000 annually. Payroll taxes remain applicable, and the same legislation also provides a tax break on overtime pay for 2025.

For Simmons, an Arkansas native and grandmother of 10, the big drop-off was a unique moment in a busy delivery career. She joined DoorDash in 2022 and has successfully completed 14,000+ deliveries. (via New York Post).
