House Democrats have taken another step toward removing Donald Trump under the 25th Amendment. Lawmakers have been trying to oust Trump from his position as the President amid the ongoing war between the United States and Iran. Previously, ex-CIA director John Brennan also criticized Trump and suggested that the 25th Amendment was created with him in mind.
House Democrats officially file 25th Amendment bill to remove Trump
House Democrats are challenging Donald Trump and have officially introduced a bill to remove him as President under the 25th Amendment.
According to a report by Fox News, the 10-page bill was filed by Democrat Jamie Raskin to create a commission to work with Vice President JD Vance to remove Trump. In his statement, Raskin said, “We have a solemn duty to play our defined role under the 25th Amendment by setting up this body to act alongside the Vice President and the Cabinet. Public trust in Donald Trump’s ability to meet the duties of his office has dropped to unprecedented lows as he threatens to destroy entire civilizations, unleashes chaos in the Middle East while violating congressional war powers.”
He called this a matter of “national security” and added, “We are at a dangerous precipice,” and Congress has “to fulfill its responsibilities under the 25th Amendment to protect the American people from an increasingly volatile and unstable situation.” Democratic and Republican leaders will appoint psychiatrists and physicians to serve on the 16-member commission, who will later appoint a chairperson.
According to the bill, the commission will perform “a medical examination” of Trump to find out if he is not fit to “mentally or physically” surrender as the President and leave his duties in the office. This follows Trump’s remarks about Iran, in which he appeared to threaten to wipe out an entire civilization.
