Kate Middleton has been accused of “badmouthing” her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, after comments made at a royal engagement.
On April 21, at a Buckingham Palace event celebrating what would have been the late Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday, the Princess of Wales spoke to an attendee … and the clip is going viral on social media.
The Princess of Wales’ comments about her “soft voice” left some people annoyed
In the video, Kate chatted to a partygoer about all the royal engagements she has in her diary. “I find these environments are really hard,” the Princess said. “I’ve also got a very soft voice, so I always get told ‘speak up a bit louder!’”
But Kate’s seemingly innocent remarks sparked backlash. Although the comments on the original post have since been turned off, OK! published a few responses while they were still online.
“Oh! But Kate has no trouble speaking loudly when badmouthing Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, right?” one person said, in response to Kate’s comment about having a soft voice.
“Could be worse. Meghan Markle is usually told to ‘shut up,’ or better yet, ‘don’t show up!” another person added. “Mediocrity at its finest,” someone else shared.
“After 15 years, she still doesn’t know how to speak to the public she represents,” a fourth added, along with an eye-roll emoji. “An embarrassment. This is why she hates Meghan.”
While it’s unlikely that Kate actually “hates” Meghan, the pair are rumored to have a strained relationship. Tension between the formerly close sisters-in-law allegedly began when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal life in 2020.
Since then, they have spent very little time together, with their husbands, Prince William and Prince Harry, also thought to be feuding.
