Jeremy Ferguson and his wife, Mandy Zelinka, were found dead in their Venice home on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Times. Law enforcement sources told the paper that both had fatal gunshot wounds.

An LAPD spokesperson revealed the crime is being considered a possible murder-suicide, People reports. No more details were provided.

Serving as mayor of Milwaukie, Ore., from 2009 to 2015, Jeremy also worked with Portland’s transit agency, TriMet, for 17 years.

Most recently, Jeremy served as director of operations for Downtown Santa Monica Inc., a nonprofit organization. He was also in charge of Santa Monica’s holiday ice rink’s redesign, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press. In addition, Jeremy helped create the city’s first outdoor roller rink and was on the Santa Monica History Museum board.

Officials reported that Jeremy did leave a suicide note, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press. Ferguson had emailed the note to a friend. Upon receiving it, the friend went immediately to his house and called authorities, according to NBC4.

The murder-suicide comes just days after another similar incident. On April 16, former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax shot his estranged wife, Cerina, before killing himself. The couple’s two teen children, son Cameron and daughter Carys, were in the family’s Annandale, VA. home when the incident took place.

Cameron called 911, but it wasn’t clear whether Justin had shot himself when police were contacted.
