Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped further among independents, according to a new poll. This comes after a Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that the President’s rating has reached its lowest in this term. The results suggested that many Americans were not happy with the rising cost of living.
New poll shows Donald Trump’s approval rating falling
A new poll suggests that Donald Trump’s approval rating has taken a blow among independents and fallen. The poll was conducted by Economist/YouGov from May 1 to 4 among 1,573 American adults. The results revealed that Trump’s net approval among independents stands at -38 in 2026. However, this number stood at -22 when all survey takers were included.
This drop in the President’s approval rating translates to an 18-point decline from May 2025. In May 2025, the net approval among independents was -20, whereas after analyzing all survey participants’ answers, it was -10.
The poll also found that among all independents, 63 percent disapproved of Trump. Meanwhile, 25 percent were satisfied with his performance. According to the results of the poll, 58 percent of all survey participants approved of the President, and 36 percent disapproved of his performance.
Previously, White House representative Davis Ingle spoke about the deteriorating approval ratings of the President. He told The Hill, “What matters most to the American people is having a Commander-in-Chief who takes decisive action to eliminate threats and keep them safe, which is exactly what President Trump did with the successful Operation Epic Fury. President Trump campaigned proudly on his promise to deny the Iranian regime the ability to develop a nuclear weapon, and he’s kept his promise. The President does not make these incredibly important national security decisions based on fluid opinion polls, but on the best interest of the American people.”
