Netflix reportedly cut a joke about First Lady Melania Trump from The Roast of Kevin Hart, which was live-streamed last Sunday, May 6, 2026. The joke was not a direct jab at Melania, but a roast of a fellow comedian on stage, comparing him to the US President’s wife
Netflix reportedly cut Melania Trump joke from Kevin Hart roast
On Sunday, Netflix live-streamed its second roast event, The Roast of Kevin Hart. All the celebrities who attended the event unabashedly roasted Hart. Apart from roasting the 46-year-old, the participants also took a friendly jab at others onstage.
When comedian Madison Sinclair took the stage to deliver her jokes, she briefly addressed fellow comedian Tony Hinchcliff. She said, “Tony is like Melania: The only thing relevant about him is that he opened for Trump once (via Variety).”
Although the joke was part of the live event, Netflix removed it from the final cut, which is now available to stream on the platform.
Sinclair’s roast was a dig at Hinchcliff’s public support for the US President Donald Trump. For context, Hinchcliffe was the opening act for Trump’s major campaign rally at Madison Square Garden in 2024. During the rally, the comedian delivered a set, leaning towards extremely racist jokes.
One of the most criticized lines from the rally was where Hinchcliff called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean.” This was in addition to antisemitic jokes, calling Palestinians “rock-throwers,” and other controversial remarks. The 41-year-old’s comments drew immediate backlash, not only from the general public but also from politicians, including Kamala Harris (via BBC).
Later, on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Hinchcliff explained that he intentionally made those jokes to encourage people to vote for Trump. “I did it, literally, to hopefully get some, hopefully if only 10,000, not to mention 100,000, maybe 200 if we’re lucky, actual people to vote for him,” he said. “I think he gets a weird, weird, weird rap in this world, man.”
