Longtime fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta watched Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker fall in love and get married. We saw as Kandi carried their son Ace and gave birth to him in 2016. Then, fans experienced the couple’s journey as a surrogate carried their second child, daughter Blaze, in 2019.
However, Todd and Kandi are now navigating divorce after over 11 years of marriage. Though she asked a judge to keep the details of her divorce sealed to protect their children, it’s not always easy to hide her own heartbreak.
The RHOA alum is staying “busy” amid her split
In an interview with AJC, Kandi has a tough time holding back her emotions while discussing her divorce.
“Don’t make me cry,” she laughs, trying to make light of her feelings. “Where’s my tissue?”
“How does anybody navigate [divorce]?” she adds, dabbing at her eyes.
“I just hope you’re taking time … for yourself,” the interviewer tells her.
Most people who’ve been through divorce will tell you it’s a terrible time. It’s the end of your hopes and dreams, your happily ever after. In many ways, it’s similar to a death – the death of a relationship you thought would last forever.
“I stay busy,” Kandi admits, still blotting tears. “Just give me a second.”
After getting her emotions under control, Kandi continues, “I mean, if y’all ain’t heard, I got divorced recently. After, 12 years of marriage … We were together, like, 15 years.”
“How have you been able to heal?” the interviewer asks. Apparently, in her upcoming one-woman show – I Do, I Don’t – Kandi shares about some infidelities within her marriage. “How are you able to heal from that?”
“I don’t think I will,” Kandi responds, laughing at the absurdity of it all. “It’s been less than a year … I’m not healed … [Furthermore], I try not to talk about [the divorce], cause I don’t like to be emotional, I don’t like to be sad. I like to lean into the positive [and] the fun.”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo. It streams on Peacock the following day.
