Charles Spencer has officially married archaeologist and podcast collaborator Cat Jarman in a private ceremony held in Arizona. The younger brother of the late Princess Diana exchanged vows with Jarman on May 15 in what the couple described as a deeply personal and joyful celebration surrounded by the dramatic scenery of Sedona.

The wedding marks Charles Spencer’s fourth marriage and comes after a relationship that began professionally before evolving into a close friendship and eventually romance. Spencer, 61, and Jarman, 43, first connected after the historian and author was asked to review her 2021 nonfiction bestseller River Kings. It’s a book focused on Viking history and archaeology.
What started as an intellectual connection quickly expanded beyond books and research projects. Over time, the pair began collaborating on archaeological digs. Later, they teamed up professionally as co-hosts of the history podcast The Rabbit Hole Detectives alongside Richard Coles. Spencer publicly confirmed the relationship in October 2024 by telling The Times, “We are close.” Now, less than two years later, the couple has officially made their relationship official.
Photos shared after the ceremony showed Jarman wearing a pale blue sleeveless gown with cutout details at the waist. Meanwhile, Spencer wore a dark suit with an open-collar light blue shirt, giving the wedding a relaxed and simple feel. In a joint statement shared with PEOPLE, the couple reflected on how their relationship grew over time. “We both feel so incredibly lucky to have progressed from being colleagues, to friendship, to deep love and connection,” they said.
The marriage marks another major chapter in Charles Spencer’s personal life. Spencer was previously married to Victoria Lockwood from 1989 to 1997, Caroline Freud from 2001 to 2007, and Karen Spencer from 2011 until they finalized their divorce in 2025.
