Denise Richards Opens up About Raising a Child With Special Needs

Mothering a child with special needs comes with its share of unique challenges and rewards. Denise Richards knows all about that. In 2011, she adopted a child with special needs.

Eloise recently celebrated her 15th birthday with Denise, and the latter has been reflecting on what it has been like to raise her. The actress and reality star says she is very proud of her and everything she has done.

Eloise was diagnosed with Chromosome 8 in 2016. The rare genetic disorder has varying degrees of developmental delay. That includes intellectual disabilities and physical abnormalities.

As challenging as it has been, Denise feels deeply grateful for raising a child like Eloise. On Instagram, the ex-wife of Charlie Sheen showed off a reel of Eloise and the parenting journey she’s been on.

In her online caption, Denise shares that raising a special needs kid “gets more challenging with me worrying more about her future the older she gets.” Denise added that “Eloise is the biggest Angel with the biggest selfless heart.”

While raising Eloise has come with some setbacks, Denise has had plenty of help along the way. The 15-year-old has many people in her life who look out for her. That includes Denise’s other two kids, her close friends, and her father.

Denise shared Eloise with Aaron Phypers, whom she married in 2018 and filed for divorce from last year. Lola and Sami are her two other daughters, whom she shares with ex-husband Charlie.

Eloise’s condition was revealed by Denise during the Season 9 reunion of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Because of this diagnosis, Denise says that Eloise needed physical therapy just to learn how to sit up.
