New Voice Coach Riley Green Accuses Kelly Clarkson of ‘Talking Trash’

The smack-talking has begun ahead of the upcoming season of The Voice. According to new coach Riley Green, most of that is coming from veteran Kelly Clarkson.

The winner of the first American Idol knows a thing or two about competing and is apparently pulling out all the stops with her gamesmanship ahead of the new season.

Riley has labelled the Grammy Award winner as someone to watch as he prepares to join the show. He says that Kelly “sent me a message kind of talking trash about the show.”

Riley is learning first-hand how seriously Kelly is taking this upcoming season. The country singer and songwriter admits to E! News that the friendly competition created by Kelly is “so brand new” for him. While he hasn’t had a lot of face-to-face time with the other coaches ahead of Season 30, Riley says that Kelly’s been trash-talking via messages. He believes that “she’ll probably be tough” to beat.

While he’s had the most communication with Kelly, Riley says that he feels intimidated by the other big stars serving as mentors. He shared that he felt in awe of Queen Latifah, calling her a “larger than life figure for me growing up.” Crossing paths with her was for him a surreal experience. He says that he has yet to communicate with the other coach, Adam Levine.

Having had limited interactions with the other coaches, according to Riley, could make for better TV when the cameras start rolling. He is relishing the friendly competition while also building a rapport with the other three coaches.

Riley discussed the show at the 2026 American Music Awards. He was nominated for Male Artist of the Year and Artist-Songwriter of the Year. He wound up winning Event of the Year for Don’t Mind if I Do, featuring Ella Langley.

Earlier this month, Queen Latifah was confirmed as a coach, the same month as Riley. Season 30 of The Voice debuts in September.
