Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that killing American soldiers remains his red line for restarting the war. He also hinted that breakthroughs in negotiations with Tehran could come as soon as this weekend.
Trump claimed the U.S. military had already devastated Iran’s armed forces during the ongoing conflict. He stated that Iran’s navy and air force had been wiped out entirely. The president added that Iranian leadership suffered heavy losses and the country struggled to replace its generals.
The warning came alongside Trump’s comments about Iran’s destroyed nuclear facilities. He asserted that U.S. strikes had obliterated Iran’s buried nuclear sites beyond easy recovery. Trump argued that only the United States and China possess equipment powerful enough to retrieve enriched uranium from the collapsed mountain sites.
Meanwhile, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, pushed back against Washington’s negotiating posture. Mohsen Rezaei accused Trump of pressuring Tehran into concessions while keeping American commitments deliberately vague. Rezaei stated the current draft agreement from the U.S. contains ambiguities that Tehran demands be clarified before proceeding.
Trump also expressed willingness to meet Khamenei directly if negotiations produce a deal. He told Fox News’ Peter Doocy he would be honored to meet the Iranian leader respectfully. Trump acknowledged he is likely not Khamenei’s favorite person but called him a professional.
The diplomatic back-and-forth unfolded as Hezbollah rejected a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Tehran has made that ceasefire a precondition for finalizing any broader agreement with Washington.
