Prince Harry’s recent legal defeat has reportedly jeopardized a possible reunion with King Charles. The Duke of Sussex suffered a loss in his lawsuit against Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL). With the court ruling adding more strain to their relationship, the possibility of a private meeting during his UK visit now appears unlikely.
Prince Harry and King Charles’ ‘reconciliation’ at risk after privacy lawsuit loss
Prince Harry is in the UK this week to support the Invictus Games, which will be hosted in Birmingham next year. He originally wanted to bring his family for a reunion with King Charles. However, that now seems uncertain due to ongoing security disputes. That said, royal sources claim that the King continues to push for a reunion with his grandchildren, whom he last saw in 2022.
Tensions rose further when Prince Harry lost his privacy lawsuit against Associated Newspapers. The Duke, along with six other claimants, accused the publishers of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday of using illegal methods to obtain information. On Tuesday, he and fellow claimant Baroness Doreen Lawrence released a joint statement. It read, “We came to Court seeking justice and accountability. But we have received neither.”
A statement released after Prince Harry’s loss placed King Charles in a difficult position, causing tensions to rise further. In an interview with Marie Claire, former royal butler Grant Harrold shared his view. He said that the possibility of a family reunion now feels more uncertain than ever.
The remarks targeting His Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service have placed the reigning monarch in a difficult position. According to Harrold, speaking on behalf of Action Network, “With everything that’s happened over the last 48 hours, I’d say it’s highly unlikely we’re going to see any sort of reconciliation anytime soon.”
“I just don’t quite see how The King can come back from what’s happened, and equally, I can’t see how Harry can either. The gulf between them now seems deeper than ever. To me, it feels as though the ship has sailed,” he added.
