Divorce may be common in the Real Housewives world, but that doesn’t mean it’s any easier for the kids. Riley Burruss is currently navigating her mom Kandi Burruss’ divorce and sharing what it has been like for her as she works through this next phase of the family unit’s lives.
Riley Burruss discusses Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker split
Riley appeared on The Real Housewives of Atlanta with her mom Kandi. She spoke about her mom’s split from Todd Tucker. Riley admits that Todd has been in her life for over a decade, and he is very much a father figure to her. Todd and Kandi’s split has definitely impacted her.
“A lot of people forget that yes, a divorce happens between two people, but it affects more than just those two people,” Riley shared with Talia Parkinson-Jones.
The Next Gen NYC star visited Today on Sirius XM and got candid about the split. “It was really hard for me,” she admitted. “I had a hard time.”
Riley learned about Kandi and Todd’s split in November while she was busy filming the second season of Bravo’s hit next generation reality TV show. She said that the life change led to a “year of adapting” for her.
“It’s tough times, it’s easy times,” Riley shared. “It’s confusing. I’m still learning, honestly.” It was a big life change and prompted her to ask her mom for help handling the new family normal.
“I’ve learned from my mom that there are things that she protects in herself and how strong she is, how courageous (she is),” Riley said proudly. “Because all of this I didn’t even know. She wants to protect me the most she can. Being able to do that for your children is just a powerful thing.”
Kandi has also been quite candid about her split from Todd. The couple settled their divorce last March and appear to be doing well. They went on a family vacation recently and had a great time, though Kandi was quick to shoot down any reconciliation rumors. She admitted she’s still healing but happy to be able to co-parent with Todd, keeping the kids’ best interests at heart.
