Riley Burruss lists rapping, DJing, piano and drums among her musical interests
During the Next Gen NYC After Show, Riley outlined some of the activities she enjoys outside of her professional plans which she discussed with Bravo.
“I like piano. I like the drums. I like going to the studio,” Riley said. “I rap for fun sometimes. I mean, the list goes on and on.”
Her interests also extend beyond music. Riley said she paints and studies languages. She speaks English, Korean and Spanish and said she knows some Portuguese.
Riley has previously recorded music herself. In 2017, she released the song “Better Late Than Never.” She also demonstrated her rapping during the Next Gen NYC After Show.
However, Riley has also expressed an interest in working behind the scenes. She said she enjoys the structure of working at record labels and described a corporate music job as something she finds appealing.
“I really like being corporate,” Riley said. “I really like going to the record labels, and working there, and doing a 9 to 5. I find that very fun.”
Riley had also considered pursuing entertainment law. During Next Gen NYC Season 2, she revealed that she was applying to Columbia University for law school.
“DJ-ing is a passion. School is really my future. I really want to study to be an entertainment lawyer,” she said. “I love music, I love law, and I love to argue, so, sounds perfect.”
Riley later said on the After Show that her law school plans were on hold. She added, “I want to do more with DJ-ing, eventually.”
Her mother, Kandi, has an extensive background in the music industry through Xscape and songwriting. Riley has said she wants to work with Atlanta artists and help strengthen the city’s position in the industry.
