Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently enjoyed a family holiday in Europe with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The trip came ahead of Harry’s planned return to the U.K. It was also expected to give the couple a chance to reconnect after a busy period.
However, the trip took an unexpected turn. Reports claimed the Sussexes had hoped to stay at Buckingham Palace during their visit to Britain. Those plans were reportedly changed at the last minute. As a result, Harry is said to have traveled to the U.K. on his own. Meanwhile, Markle and the children stayed away, allegedly due to security concerns.
Against that backdrop, an insider alleged the couple spent much of their trip discussing the direction of their lives. “They had very high hopes for this trip,” the source told Heat Magazine. Instead, the insider claimed it became “very stressful,” with long-standing disagreements resurfacing during their time together.
One issue, the source alleged, is Harry’s growing desire to establish his own path. “Harry doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life just sitting in the background being Meghan’s plus one,” the insider claimed. According to the source, he wants to play a more active role rather than simply supporting Markle’s professional ambitions from the sidelines.
At the same time, Markle is said to have her own concerns. The insider claimed she does not want to see Harry continue dwelling on his strained relationship with the Royal Family.
Ultimately, the report suggests neither sees these differences as a reason to walk away. “They’re both very committed to finding their way through this,” the source said. The insider added that talking openly during the trip was ultimately a positive step, even if it wasn’t “the romantic escape they’d imagined.”
