Prince Harry reportedly finds celebrity-heavy events unsettling without his wife, Meghan Markle, by his side. The TIME 100 Sports Gala, held earlier this month in New York City, featured some of the biggest names, including LeBron James and skier Lindsay Vonn. As per Radar Online, this was Harry’s first solo outing after his recent trip to the UK and his private meeting with his father, King Charles.
A source shared with the outlet that Harry’s discomfort was obvious, as he perhaps hoped his wife would be by his side.
The source shared, “There was a noticeable contrast between the scale of the occasion and Harry’s demeanor – he appeared more restrained than many would expect at a celebrity-heavy gathering like this. He is clearly committed to the Invictus Games, but environments centered on celebrity culture do not always seem to play to his strengths, particularly when he is appearing alone.”
Continuing further, the source dished: “Without Meghan alongside him, there was a sense he was operating outside his comfort zone. It highlighted how different these public-facing moments can feel for him compared to more purpose-driven engagements.”
The source explained that Harry remains deeply committed to the Invictus Games and feels comfortable as long as the focus stays on them. However, if the purpose shifts to performance, the Duke of Sussex is unable to handle that.
Interestingly, while Harry may not be comfortable with media attention, he handled the press well at the New York event. According to PEOPLE, photographers shouted his name to get his attention on the red carpet. One photographer addressed him as “Mr. Duke of Sussex, Sir.” Harry called the group the most polite set of photographers he had ever met.
