Stefon Diggs is reportedly heading home. The veteran wide receiver is expected to sign with the Washington Commanders, marking a fresh chapter in his NFL career after months away from the field. The move comes as Diggs continues to deal with an ongoing legal dispute off the field.
Stefon Diggs is expected to join the Commanders after reports of a deal exceeding $10 million
According to TMZ, Diggs is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Commanders worth more than $10 million. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the agreement.
The signing would bring the Maryland native back to familiar territory. Diggs grew up in Gaithersburg and played college football at the University of Maryland before beginning his NFL career. He is also expected to become another key target for quarterback Jayden Daniels. The veteran receiver joins a Washington offense looking to build on its recent success.
Diggs spent last season with the New England Patriots, recording 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The Patriots released him in March, making him a free agent heading into the 2026 season.
His reported return to the field follows several months of legal developments. Earlier this year, Diggs was acquitted of assault and strangulation charges involving a former personal chef after pleading not guilty. Following the verdict, the NFL closed its own review without issuing discipline.
However, Diggs is still involved in a separate legal dispute. He is facing civil sexual assault allegations from Christopher Griffith, who has accused the NFL star of assault. Diggs has denied the allegations and previously filed a defamation lawsuit against Griffith. The legal battle between the two remains ongoing.
TMZ also noted that Diggs’ personal life has remained in the spotlight. The outlet reported that it is unclear whether rapper Cardi B, who welcomed a son with Diggs last year, will be supporting him in Washington. Reports have suggested the pair are no longer together.
If finalized, the Commanders deal would give Diggs another opportunity to revive his career while returning to his home state. At the same time, his ongoing civil case is expected to continue through the legal process.
