James Haven has shared a deeply personal part of his life with the public. The brother of Angelina Jolie revealed his sexuality during a recent livestream, saying he no longer wanted to hide who he is. The emotional moment came months after Haven and his ex-wife, Romi Imbelli, ended their brief marriage but remained close friends.
James Haven read a personal letter about his sexuality during the livestream
According to TMZ, Haven appeared alongside Imbelli on her Substack livestream. Here, the pair discussed how their relationship had evolved after their split. During the livestream, Haven read a heartfelt letter explaining his journey toward accepting his sexuality.
“When I was a little boy, I was absolutely obsessed with the Disney princesses,” he read. “I would sneak glitter onto my cheeks, swipe mascara onto my lashes, and for those moments, I felt like magic.”
Haven said he did not have the words to describe those feelings as a child. As he grew older, he questioned whether he needed to hide that part of himself to fit in. “Like so many gay kids, I learned to question parts of myself long before I learned to celebrate them,” he said.
He added that he spent years dimming his light but no longer wanted to live that way. “Coming out isn’t about becoming someone new,” Haven continued. “It’s about allowing everyone else to meet the person who has been here all along.”
He also expressed hope that his family and others would respond with compassion. “I hope my family and others can choose love over fear, understanding over judgment, and connection over the beliefs that may have kept us apart,” he wrote.
Haven ended the letter by reflecting on his younger self. “That little boy with glitter on his face and mascara on his lashes was never confused, broken, or something to be ashamed of. He was simply gay.”
Imbelli also shared a message on Instagram after the livestream. She said she never wanted to out Haven but instead hoped to help “set someone free.”
She described him as her “best friend” and “family,” adding that they had found healing through forgiveness and unconditional love.
Haven and Imbelli married in 2024 before separating just days later. Despite the split, they have remained close and are now working together to adapt Imbelli’s book into a television series, which Haven plans to direct.
