Brooke Shields’ daughter embraces the ‘nepo baby’ label and acknowledges her privilege
According to TODAY, Henchy spoke about the term while appearing on Bravo’s Casual Chaos to promote Season 2 of Next Gen NYC. “I love the term, nepo baby. I am obsessed with the term nepo baby; I think it’s genius and I will never shy away from it,” she said. However, she added that the label can be damaging in some cases.
She said, “However, I do think in the entertainment industry, when you approach someone with a resumé and your name flags that maybe you are a nepo baby, it causes more harm than opportunity.” Speaking about the privilege she enjoys during the interview, Henchy added, “Does it help in certain situations? Of course. But at the same time, people don’t want to deal with it.”
Rowan, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 15, also spoke about her upbringing during the conversation. She credited her mother for helping her stay grounded. “Mom told us that you treat the janitor with as much respect as the president of the company, that you make eye contact and say thank you, that you lead with respect.”
Henchy explained that she had been “throwing my resumé to anyone who walked past me” after graduating. Although she found a job, her heart was set on the reality TV opportunity when it came along. She said she couldn’t turn down a role that would give her the chance to broaden her horizons and meet new people.
