It is reported that the couple has been talking about a public apology, as part of a wider strategy to restore trust with the Royal Family. Neither Harry nor Meghan has confirmed those discussions.

According to Naughty But Nice, advisers have discussed whether Harry and Meghan should release a carefully written public statement. Sources told the outlet that the goal would not force the couple to admit every past claim was wrong. One insider said, “It’s about acknowledging that the past five years have caused enormous pain.” The same source said advisers are still debating the apology, what it should include and what it should exclude.
The report states that the private meeting at Highgrove was a rare opportunity to reconcile, as believed by advisers. Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles met Harry, Meghan, and their children at Highgrove in July, but the palace did not share details from the gathering. A second source told Naughty But Nice that “trust needs to be restored before the family can move forward. The source also said the biggest challenge involves showing respect to the King without asking Harry and Meghan to withdraw past interviews, documentaries, or Harry’s memoir, Spare.
Sources also told Naughty But Nice that advisers have already discussed several possible drafts of a statement. Those drafts are said to be about the rift in the family rather than on any particular allegations from last year. One palace source said, “An apology doesn’t have to be a surrender.” The same source added, “Charles wants peace, but he also wants respect. This could be the first real step toward both.”
The report does not state whether Harry and Meghan have made a decision on releasing a public statement. Currently, the discussions are said to be continuing behind closed doors. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not commented on the report.
