King Charles reportedly had one sincere request before his summer reunion with Prince Harry and his family. The monarch allegedly demanded complete privacy around the gathering at Highgrove House. Despite it being a rare opportunity to see Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, he did not want any photographs or details to go public. Buckingham Palace acknowledged the Sussexes’ meeting with the King and Queen, but offered no further comment.
Woman & Home’s Royal Editor, Emily Andrews, reported that Charles requested that the reunion remain under wraps. “There has been no briefing from either Team Sussex or Buckingham Palace on what took place at Highgrove over tea – and certainly no photographs,” Andrews noted. “That will have been the King’s express request – that it should happen completely privately, and stay that way.”
According to Andrews, safeguarding the family’s privacy was crucial for maintaining the “fragile trust” between the King and the Sussexes following years of public discord. While Meghan Markle shared images from their UK visit on social media, there were no pictures of her children with their grandfather. The reported move is similar to a prior gathering during the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
Andrews stated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had sought approval to bring a “trusted photographer” for Queen Elizabeth’s first meeting with Princess Lilibet. Approval was denied, and no pictures of the moment were ever put out.
Unlike before, there have been no claims this time that the Sussexes sought permission for photographs. Andrews indicated that they honored Charles’ wishes in an effort to mend family ties.
