The Future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce is happy to see Eric Bieniemy back at Kansas City Chiefs training camp. The offensive coordinator returned after spending about two weeks away to be with his wife, Mia, following her shooting.
Travis Kelce praises Eric Bieniemy’s ‘infectious’ intensity after coach returns to Chiefs camp
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Aug. 12, the 36-year-old All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce said Bieniemy brings an energy that the team had been missing. “One, you’ve got intensity. Intensity is the first thing and that intensity is infectious,” Kelce said. “And I love that s—. It’s one of my favorite things about him. I don’t think there’s enough of that in the world, let alone in this building.”
As per PEOPLE, the Super Bowl champion also pointed to Bieniemy’s demanding nature. While his accountability can sometimes frustrate players, Kelce said, “He’s one of those guys where his accountability is gonna piss you off.” He added, “But if you treat it the right way and you act the right way, respond the right way with it, you’re gonna become better, and it’s gonna make the team a better team.”
“It’s one of those things I think we really missed here in Kansas City,” Kelce shared.
Bieniemy stepped away from the team after his wife, Mia Bieniemy, was allegedly shot at their Virginia home on July 26. She was hospitalized following the incident and is recovering. Meanwhile, their 27-year-old son, Elijah, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He faces three felony charges, including malicious wounding and firearm-related charges. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 31.
Now, Bieniemy is back with the Chiefs as they prepare for the upcoming season. This is his second stint as the team’s offensive coordinator. He previously held the position from 2018 to 2022 and won two Super Bowls with Kansas City.
Kelce has also made it clear that Bieniemy’s return was one of the things he was looking forward to this season.
