Queen Camilla almost landed a cameo in Only Murders in the Building. However, it didn’t materialize due to the filming and logistical challenges. This revelation comes amid reports of Meghan Markle’s return to acting after stepping away from the profession in 2017 to become a royal member.
Queen Camilla almost joined Only Murders in the Building
In a recent conversation with Vulture, John Hoffman, showrunner and EP of Only Murders in the Building, revealed how they almost secured a Queen Camilla cameo. He said, “We almost got Camilla. I know it’s insane, but yes, there was a moment.” He revealed that he was in disbelief when he learned that the Queen was available and that an appearance could potentially happen.
However, the opportunity never materialized due to the UK’s stricter filming rules. On top of that, another challenge was that bringing in a royal member could have added further complications to an already tight production schedule. Realizing that it would make the process more difficult, they didn’t proceed with the idea.
This news comes some days after a report suggested that Markle is set to be back in the entertainment industry. It was learned that she could be teaming up with Guy Ritchie for the Netflix series The Gentlemen. However, a latest report claimed that her casting has been withdrawn due to intense backlash.
“The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK. More to come,” Tina Brown, the former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, wrote on Substack. Before stepping away from acting, Markle was widely known for her role as Rachel Zane in Suits. Over the years, while she has stayed away from mainstream entertainment projects, she did appear in documentary-style gigs around her personal and professional life.
