Ex-RHOC Producer Claims Shannon Beador Is Protected by Production

Shannon Beador is facing another behind-the-scenes claim about her time on The Real Housewives of Orange County. Former producer Patrick McDonald alleges that production has shielded the Real Housewives star from some difficult moments on camera. The claim surfaced on Heather McDonald’s Juicy Scoop podcast. Patrick revisited filming with Shannon after her DUI and also weighed in on past criticism from Joel Kim Booster.

Patrick McDonald alleges RHOC production protected Shannon Beador

During the Aug. 25 episode of Juicy Scoop, Patrick said producers “protect her.” He alleged they leave out footage showing Shannon at her worst.

According to Patrick, production balances tense scenes with humorous moments. He believes that approach keeps viewers from completely turning against the longtime RHOC star.

Patrick argued that producers also need Shannon willing to return each season. In his telling, they show conflict without pushing her to the point where she might walk away.

He also described a filming day after Shannon’s 2023 DUI. The crew planned to film her getting a court-ordered breathalyzer device installed in her car.

Patrick alleged Shannon became angry after learning the device might not work with the vehicle. He claimed she then yelled at him before the scene.

Still, Patrick acknowledged that Season 18 put Shannon under unusual pressure. He called the addition of Alexis Bellino, who was dating Shannon’s ex John Janssen, “diabolical.”

Patrick then connected his account to Joel Kim Booster’s past accusations. After filming Love Hotel, Booster accused Shannon of mistreating crew members.

However, Booster later apologized for his comments. He said an on-set conflict had clouded his judgment. Patrick said the behavior Booster described matched what he claims he witnessed.

Shannon has previously rejected Patrick’s characterization. She said she was withdrawn during a difficult season and insisted she treated him kindly. Gina Kirschenheiter later said she did not recognize Patrick’s version of Shannon.

For now, Patrick’s allegations remain his account of production. Bravo has not publicly confirmed that RHOC gives Shannon a protective edit.
