Hollywood heavyweight George Clooney recently opened up about football heartbreak in a funny, candid moment with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and ex-NFL star Jason Kelce.
The actor shared both laughs and sighs over his lifelong loyalty to the Cincinnati Bengals, from dashed playoff dreams to personal fan woes.
George Clooney calls out Travis Kelce for breaking his heart
In a hilarious on-camera conversation, George Clooney playfully roasted Travis Kelce over past NFL seasons. “Travis, you broke me, man. I’m a Bengals fan, dude. I grew up in Cincinnati. You’ve broken me so many times in your pretty face on GQ. You know how many times I’ve thrown a hoagie at my TV at your face? You’ve broken me,” Clooney said. His rant stems from the years of watching the Bengals struggle, while Kelce’s Chiefs kept standing in the way of any Cincinnati glory.
Kelce fired back with honesty, talking about his early heartbreaks. He said the Bengals’ moves during the draft crushed him. “You guys had your run. You guys broke me. I’ll tell you what, the Bengals broke me coming out. It took a tight end ahead of me in the draft, and I felt heartbroken. I was a Cincinnati Bearcat. I was sitting in their backyard,” he said.
The podcast also included a nod to Clooney’s own Cincinnati roots, with Kelce teasing about growing up in the same city and sharing the same fan rollercoaster. Clooney jumped in, laughing, “That’s right. You were a Bearcat, man. You were literally in the backyard off a straight street.”
Travis Kelce kicked off his career at the University of Cincinnati, making the switch from quarterback to tight end after redshirting in 2008. Even after a 2010 suspension for a failed drug test, he bounced back, hauling in 45 catches for 722 yards and eight touchdowns his senior year.
Fast forward to the pros, the Chiefs picked him in the 2013 draft, and Kelce has since blown up as one of the NFL’s elite tight ends. He has racked up over 1,050 catches, 12,700+ yards, around 80 touchdowns, multiple Pro Bowls, and three Super Bowl titles.
