RHOSLC’s Mary Cosby and Husband Robert Accused of Pressuring Ex-Congregants for Money: Details

Just when you thought the Mary Cosby cult rumors had settled down, here comes TLC with their new docuseries, The Cult of The Real Housewife. A sneak peek at the three-part special shows former members of the Faith Temple Pentecostal accusing Mary and Robert Cosby Sr. of putting major financial pressure on them. According to one woman, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City stars would practically barricade the church doors to make sure they got their “offerings.”

People got an exclusive first look at the upcoming TLC series. In the sneak peek, a pair of ex-congregants detailed just how much money Mary and Robert expected. One man claimed that he gave $1,000 to Mary in a birthday card and hardly got a thank you.

Later in the clip, a woman named Rosalind Enoch alleged that Mary and Robert created something called “heave offerings.” Originally, they thought these would recur every six months. Things quickly escalated.

Rosalind alleged, “We could’ve just had a heave offering meeting, and then in another week or two we’re having another meeting where we’re being told there’s an emergency, and they need $100,000, and they need it by Thursday.”

Rosalind claimed they’d have ushers stand in front of the doors during these meetings. Then, everyone would have to disclose the amount of money that they planned on donating. However, no one necessarily knew where the money was going.

“You’re just being barricaded in here,” Rosalind said. “During this meeting, everyone put their name and their amount on the list. If you didn’t have a certain amount, Robert would say, ‘That’s all you have?’ I mean, there’s nothing spiritual about that, right?”

“There were times that I would give $5,000,” she continued. “It was a lot. This money is getting bigger and bigger. There were people cashing out 401(k)s, losing homes. It got to be a financial embarrassment for some.”

TLC’s docuseries arrives just weeks after Bravo aired an episode that took place inside the church. Mary opened the doors to all of the Housewives, who all praised her sermon. Whitney Rose described Mary’s “powerful and magnificent” presence. The docuseries promises to show the other side of that coin.

The Cult of The Real Housewife premieres Thursday, January 1, on TLC, and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City continues on Bravo, every Tuesday at 8/7c.
