Meghan Markle Won’t Gain Anything by Staying Away From UK — Author

With the Sussexes’ security status back under review, the possibility of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry returning to the UK has once again become a topic of debate. One royal commentator argues that Meghan Markle’s prolonged absence could ultimately work against her, especially as speculation builds around her next move.

Meghan Markle avoiding UK raises questions about Prince Harry relationship, warns author

Meghan Markle has not visited the United Kingdom since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022. Now, some royal watchers believe her continued distance could complicate perceptions around her and Prince Harry’s relationship. Royal author Duncan Larcombe told The Mirror that Meghan’s reluctance to return has long been tied, at least publicly, to the family’s ongoing security dispute. But he also suggested that some critics claim the hesitation is fueled by concerns about how she might be received by the British public.

Larcombe says if the new threat assessment results in heightened protection for the Sussexes, Meghan may face a difficult decision. According to him, increased security would remove what many see as her primary reason for staying away. “She has no choice but to think about it given the new review,” he added. Larcombe argued that avoiding the U.K. indefinitely could ultimately reflect poorly on her.

The author also claimed that any visit would raise complicated questions about whom the couple would see. Harry’s relationship with King Charles has appeared strained, with reports of only one meeting in the last two years. The rift with Prince William is believed to be even deeper. Larcombe alleges that the Prince of Wales is still “furious” over past grievances.

A return may nonetheless carry strategic benefits. Larcombe suggested that skipping future events, including the 2027 Invictus Games, could be perceived as a misstep. He argued that if Harry traveled alone with the children while Meghan remained in the U.S., it could spark speculation about the couple “wanting different things.”

Despite the uncertainty, bookmakers in the U.K. have already begun forecasting potential timelines for a return. Some predict a 2026 return as the most likely. However, major events like the Invictus Games could also prompt a 2027 visit.
