The proposal happened during a family ski trip in Big Bear, California. Gina believed the group was simply scouting a spot for family photos. She didn’t expect anything more.
The timing came after a complicated stretch for the couple. Travis has been dealing with messy ongoing custody and divorce battles with his ex, which influenced decisions around his personal life. Those legal matters previously led the couple to move carefully while focusing on stability for their blended family.
Because of that, the proposal caught Gina completely off guard. On the back porch, Travis dropped to one knee. His daughter Presley secretly filmed the moment from the woods. Gina immediately covered her face in shock.
“After eight years on television, what I loved most about this moment was that there were no cameras around except for my stepdaughter hiding in the woods,” Gina wrote on Instagram.
She added, “I will cherish this unexpected, simple, beautiful moment forever. Thank you Travis, I love you.”
The video included onscreen text capturing Gina’s thoughts as they raced. “Wait for one of the best moments of my life. Omg is he going to propose to me??! Noooo he’s not going to propose to me. Holy sh*t he’s proposing to me!!! Total shock!!!! YES! Of course!”
After she said yes, Gina bent down to kiss Travis. “Best kiss of my life,” she wrote.
Her reactions continued as the moment sank in. “Trying not to pass out. Still processing … Look at this stunner!”
According to PEOPLE, Travis proposed with a custom six-carat, oval-cut diamond ring he designed with Wove. The ring reflected their blended family and six children, who waited inside to celebrate once Gina said yes.
Later, Gina shared that watching the New Year’s Eve ball drop felt more intentional and united. The next morning, she and Travis marked the engagement with a spontaneous photo shoot.
