Andy Dick’s brush with death last year is one he has zero recollection of. The comedian, who’s had his share of substance abuse issues, slouched over on the streets in December. It’s believed that he had overdosed of fentanyl.
There’s a reason the NewsRadio actor can’t remember that frightening incident. Andy says that a CAT scan was performed on him, revealing holes in his brain. Interestingly, having fentanyl in his system may have been the sole reason he’s alive to share his story today. Narcan can reverse those effects. Andy was revived after taking that shot.
Andy Dick’s brain injury is actually from a 2019 incident
Contrary to what you may be thinking, Andy’s head injury has nothing to do with his drug history. Speaking on the Howie Madel Does Stuff podcast, Andy says, “there’s about five to seven holes” in his brain. A representative for Andy has said, “The issue with his brain is from the 2019 attack.” An attacker allegedly cold-cocked the comedian while outside a club that Andy and Paris Dylan had performed in. They believe that in time, Andy’s brain will heal.
The holes Andy has are called lesions. They can develop for numerous reasons, including brain injuries, chronic stress and other factors, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
At the time of his most recent drug episode, Andy had been with some friends before running off to smoke crack cocaine. A video showed him slumped over some stairs as bystanders called for an ambulance. In January, it was reported that he left rehab following his near-death experience.
Andy is once again on the mend following his overdose. His representative says that he is back sober and in good shape despite the scary moment. He has a long history of arrests for various forms of alleged assaults and public intoxications among them.
