Meghan Markle’s Australian Retreat Risks Not Fulfilling Promises — Report

Meghan Markle’s Australian retreat reportedly ran into fresh trouble weeks before her planned trip to the “Ossie” island. A new report said the luxury Sydney event still faced unfinished hotel facilities and questions around nearby beach conditions. At the same time, the duchess’s team confirmed she would still appear.

Meanwhile, the latest concerns added to earlier scrutiny around the retreat’s organiser and ticketing details. So, the issue was no longer only about Markle’s appearance. It also involved whether the premium weekend could deliver the experience being advertised to guests paying top-tier prices.

Meghan Markle’s Australian retreat reportedly faces major setback with pool construction

As per a Daily Mail report, Meghan Markle’s Australian retreat remained on schedule, but the venue reportedly faced visible setbacks. The outlet said Markle would still appear at the three-day “Her Best Life Retreat” in Sydney from April 17 to 19. A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex confirmed that plan. However, the report said the five-star InterContinental hotel’s infinity pool was still under construction, while the spa, bar, and leisure deck were also unfinished.

In the same report, the hotel’s website reportedly listed those ocean-facing additions as due for completion in April. This timing raised questions because guests were promised a “relaxed time by the pool overlooking Coogee Beach.” One of them described the area as “a work in progress” and called it “a blot on the view.” Meanwhile, the beach below the hotel also drew attention. Coogee Beach had faced pollution concerns since 2024, after foul-smelling balls washed ashore. Tests reportedly found a mix of chemicals, soap, cooking oil, hair, and human waste.

Elsewhere, the retreat also faced business questions tied to organiser Gemma O’Neill. His talent firm entered voluntary liquidation in November, with debts reportedly topping $543,000 AUD. Even so, Markle’s appearance remained locked in. The “Suits” alum was still expected to headline the weekend, take part in a Q&A, and deliver a speech. Ticket packages reportedly ranged up to $3,199 AUD and included front-row seating, two nights’ stay, and a group photo. So, while the Australia trip still moved ahead, the retreat entered April with construction delays, venue questions, and financial scrutiny already surrounding the event.
