Donald Trump talks about running for President of Venezuela

Trump recently attended a press conference that centered on the rescue mission of an Air Force officer whose jet was shot down over Iran. At the time, he joked about running for president in Venezuela while also offering reasons why he’s a suitable candidate. He said, “The people of Venezuela, they say, if I ran for president of Venezuela, I’m polling higher than anybody has ever polled in Venezuela, so after I’m finished with this, I can go to Venezuela.”

He further flexed his language skills, revealing that he could learn Spanish easily. “I will quickly learn Spanish. It won’t take too long. I’m good at language, and I will go to Venezuela. I’m going to run for president.” Keeping aside his shocking remark, Trump expressed his support for the country’s current acting president. He added, “But we’re very happy with the president-elect that we have right now.”

Trump was then asked about his earlier threats to Iran about seizing their oil, considering it to be “risky,” and reflected on the Venezuelan instance from January 2026. “With Venezuela, as you know, the war was over in about 45 minutes,” he added. Trump was referring to the US forces’ capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Further sharing an update on their current relationship with the southern American state and buying oil from them, he explained, “And we have great people running Venezuela, very good people. I mean, the relationship is good, and we are a partner with Venezuela, and we’ve taken hundreds of millions of barrels, hundreds of millions.”
