Pope Leo has shared a new message about “injustice and lies” on social media. It comes amid his ongoing feud with Donald Trump, who has been under fire this week after he posted an image of himself as a messiah online.
Pope Leo said “God’s heart is torn apart by wars”
In case you missed it (how!?), the pope and the president have been butting heads of late. And the drama between them has escalated further this week.
On Monday, Trump shared a lengthy post on Truth Social attacking the pope, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran. Not long afterwards, the president took to his social site again, this time to post an image of himself resembling Jesus.
In the seemingly AI-generated picture, Trump was dressed as a biblical figure. He had orbs of golden light coming from his hands, which he used to heal a sick man. Hours later, following widespread backlash from critics and fans alike, Trump deleted the post.
Now, the pontiff has shared his first social media post since Trump took his own one down. “God’s heart is torn apart by wars, violence, injustice and lies,” he wrote on X. “But our Father’s heart is not with the wicked, the arrogant, or the proud.”
“God’s heart is with the little ones and the humble,” Leo went on. “With them, He builds up His Kingdom of love and peace day by day. Wherever there is love and service, God is there.”
It’s unclear if the pope’s post is in relation to Trump, especially given the choice of hashtags, but that hasn’t stopped people in the comments from theorizing that it is a direct reply. “Trump has Pope Derangement Syndrome,” said @krassenstein, while @anitasleep responded: “Please don’t make this beautiful speech about such an ugly man.”
