Donald Trump Swipes at Meghan Markle After Prince Harry’s Ukraine Comments

Donald Trump just threw shade at Meghan Markle over comments made earlier this week by her husband, Prince Harry.

During a surprise visit to Ukraine on April 23, the Duke of Sussex spoke about the war and, although he didn’t name the president directly, he urged “American leadership to step up.”

“The United States has a singular role in this story,” Harry said during a powerful speech at the Kyiv Security Forum. “Not only because of its power, but because when Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons, America was part of the assurance that Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders would be respected.”

To that end, the Duke said: “This is a moment for American leadership.”

“[It is] a moment for America to show that it can honor its international treaty obligations, not out of charity, but out of its own enduring role in global security and strategic stability,” he went on.

But, while Harry’s comments were well recieved by the crowd he spoke to, Trump was less enthused.

Just hours after Harry gave his speech, Trump was asked to respond by reporters at the Oval Office, per PEOPLE. “Prince Harry? How’s he doing? How’s his wife?” Trump said, deflecting from the serious subject matter in question. “Please give her my regards.”

Trump then turned his attention directly to Harry, and made some pretty big claims. “I know one thing: Prince Harry is not speaking for the UK,” he claimed. “I think I’m speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry. But I appreciate his advice.”

The president’s retort at the Sussexes comes days before King Charles and Queen Camilla are due to visit the US. They’ll visit Washington DC, New York, Virginia, and Bermuda.
