Season 4 of Below Deck Down Under gave viewers a real treat. The cast featured several seasoned vets, including Bosun João Franco and Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher. Plus, this season gave us the legendary crossover with The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Whatever the ladies tipped this crew, it was not enough.

In addition, João and Daisy enjoyed a boatmance this season while he was broken up with his girlfriend. However, João and his girlfriend have since reunited. Now, fans are saddened to learn that João is moving on from the Below Deck franchise.
Recently, João discussed his future and why he isn’t returning to Bravo. “I did Below Deck Down Under in 2021, airing in 2022, and filmed my final season last year, which is on TV now,” he told the Mallorca Daily Bulletin. “The show neatly mirrored my real-world career progression. Across the four series, I moved from deckhand to lead deckhand, bosun, and finally captain.” João added, “I never wanted to be a deckhand forever. The goal was always the bridge, so I spent every spare moment doing courses to move up.”
He continued, “I can’t say much, but I’m now captain of a very large vessel. I started a few months ago, and it’s a rotational position, which is awesome.” However, João’s new role means that he will no longer be part of the BDDU crew. “Sure, the money is great, but with the prestige of my current position, I think I’ve outgrown it,” he added.
As for regrets? The captain has none. “Everything – before and during the show – led me to my goal. I also used my Instagram presence to raise $600,000 for Bahamas tornado relief so, no. I don’t regret a second of it.” João added, “Oh, and if you want to learn about yourself, get on a reality show and watch it unfold.”
Below Deck Down Under airs on Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo. It streams on Peacock the next day.
