It’s not every day (or, to be honest, any day at all) you get to name a baby kangaroo. As it turns out, though, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis just got to do exactly that.
Taking to Instagram, Robert Irwin – who is the son of legendary animal lover, the late Steve Irwin – revealed this week that the royal kids helped him name a newborn joey at Australia Zoo.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis enjoyed the royal honor
While casually name-dropping the Wales family as his “friends,” Robert shared on Instagram on May 7 that George, Charlotte, and Louis were given the honor of naming a baby kangaroo in his care at Australia Zoo.
“G’Day! It’s Robert Irwin here with a couple of my mates,” he said in the video. “This is, of course, the icon of Australia, the kangaroo, and I’m very proud to announce that my friends, the Wales family, helped us to name our beautiful new joey.”
As for what the royal children called the joey? They opted for “cwtch.” In Welsh, that translates to cuddle, which is pretty fitting, as Robert explained in his post.
“Our new joey’s name is Cwtch, which is Welsh for cuddle,” the Dancing with the Stars alum said. “[That’s] the absolute perfect name for a joey kangaroo, ’cause at this age, they love a cuddle, and they spend most of their time inside that pouch with their mom.”
Robert ended the video by offering a thank you to the three royal kids for their help in finding a “brilliant” name.
And, Robert wasn’t alone in celebrating the joey’s name. In the comment section, there was plenty of praise for little Cwtch from royal fans.
“So special,” one person said along with a heart emoji. “Aww, that’s cute,” added someone else.
