Meghan Markle’s Wedding-Day Speech Reportedly Stunned Royals

On the eighth anniversary of Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, a new interest has resurfaced regarding her bold speech at her reception party eight years ago.

Markle broke royal family wedding traditions by being the first royal bride in modern history to speak at her own wedding reception, leaving a portion of the audience impressed and others nonplussed.

Senior members of the royal family were left scratching their heads at Meghan Markle’s wedding speech

The speech, delivered at a private reception hosted by King Charles at Frogmore House, reportedly shifted the atmosphere in the room. An insider familiar with the reception said, “You could feel the atmosphere change in the room once she began speaking. Some guests thought it was touching and refreshingly modern, while others viewed it as a dramatic break from centuries of royal convention. It absolutely rendered parts of the family speechless.”

According to royal biographers Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Markle expressed that she had lost her voice after becoming a royal. A close confidant stated, “You could literally hear a pin drop.”

In Markle and Harry’s 2022 documentary series, the ex-Suits actress read out portions from the reception speech for the first time after their 2018 wedding. Markle described their relationship as “a modern fairytale,” recounting their first meeting in London in July 2016, their early dates, and their trip to Botswana before concluding with a tribute to Harry.

She later told Oprah in her explosive interview that she related to The Little Mermaid’s storyline, where Ariel lost her voice when she married the prince. She seemed to suggest that, though she respects the family and loves her husband, she has been “silenced.”

She said: “I appreciate, respect, and honor you, my treasure, for the family we will create. And our love story that will last forever. So I ask you to raise a glass to the astounding assurance that now life begins. And the everlasting knowing that, above all, love wins.”
