Captain Sandy Hits the Dock for the First Time in Her Career Amid Dramatic Below Deck Med Premiere

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 11 got off to a rocky – or rather, a docky – start when Captain Sandy Yawn had a mishap. In a dramatic season opener, she hit the dock for the first time in her career while at the helm of Motor Yacht Akira One.

To recap, in Episode 1 of the new season, Sandy and her crew – which includes returning bosun, Nathan Gallagher – went out for a test run. But, as the boat returned to its base of Port Gruž in Dubrovnik, Croatia, things turned chaotic.

Surrounded by distracting party boats, the deck crew struggled to keep Sandy informed of the distance to the dock. As a result, she slammed into it with a bang.

“They are definitely breaking the noise ordinance,” Sandy said over the radio of the party boats docked in the marina. “Jesus, that’s so frustrating,” replied Nathan, as another familiar face, Joe Bradley, chimed in that the crew couldn’t hear what was going on.

“This is insane,” Nathan said of the situation, as Sandy uttered an “Oh f*ck,” when the boat hit the dock.

In the initial aftermath, Sandy kept her cool, but Nathan panicked over the consequences. “I’m gonna get fired. And I can’t provide for my family,” he said, referring to his partner and former co-star, Gael Cameron, and their baby son. “I feel my f*cking heart just beating out of my chest,” he went on.

Later, the captain spoke to producers about the severity of the situation. “I cannot believe that just happened,” she confessed. “If there’s structural damage, our charter season’s over before it got started.”

“This is my first time ever in my life I’ve ever hit anything,” she then told Nathan while inspecting the boat for damage. “I’m so sorry. I honestly don’t even know what happened,” he replied. “I feel like crying.”

Luckily, while the boat appeared to have sustained some damage, it wasn’t enough to end the charter season. Based on the preview for the upcoming episodes, however, the drama is just getting started…

Below Deck Mediterranean continues Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo. It streams on Peacock.
