Lizzy Savetsky’s sense of humor is under heavy scrutiny. The influencer and pro-Israel activist was among those who made controversial remarks on the red carpet to promote the film The Wedding Entertainer.
Her joke at the Tribeca Festival didn’t go over well with the organizers who deemed her words as “offensive and unacceptable.”
Fans of The Real Housewives of New York will remember that Lizzy was announced as a cast member in November 2022. However, she later withdrew from the cast.
Elon Gold and Lizzy Savetsky are facing Tribeca Festival backlash
There is a time and a place for joking, and many believe the Tribeca Festival was not the appropriate moment. While on the red carpet promoting the upcoming Israeli comedy starring Elon Gold, he said that “I was only raped by two Israeli dogs” during production. Lizzy’s responded with, “I thought they only rape Palestinians.”
While they may have thought it was all in fun, the Tribeca Festival didn’t see it that way. They released a statement on X, formerly Twitter, about the controversial remarks.
“Sexual violence and human suffering should never be mocked or minimized,” the statement read. They assured everyone that the comments made “do not reflect the Tribeca Festival’s values, and we regret the hurt and offense they have caused.”
A Tribeca spokesperson says that Lizzy is not in the film. The production team of The Wedding Entertainer invited her to the event.
Lizzy responded with a video on X following the controversy. She said that her comments were in reference to a “ridiculous claim” that Israeli officials trained dogs to rape Palestinians. That claim came from a New York Times column.
There have also been videos circulating on social media which suggest they catch members of the IDF engaging in such acts with Palestinian prisoners, and trained dogs.
