JD Vance just revealed what Donald Trump really thinks about trusting anyone in the Iran talks. The Vice President shared a candid moment from the president in a new CBS interview preview ahead of the full sit-down this Sunday.

CBS Evening News with Tony Doukopil shared a preview clip of an upcoming CBS Sunday Morning interview with Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday, June 9. Chief Election and Campaign Correspondent Robert Costa conducted the interview, which will air in full on Sunday, June 14. The conversation focused on the ongoing peace talks with Iran and Trump’s approach to negotiations.

Vance has been leading the US negotiating team in peace talks with Iran. No deals have been secured or finalized yet. Recent reports indicated Trump may have derailed progress after Vance reportedly created a proposal Iran had approved.

Costa asked Vance whether the Iranians were “stringing Trump along.” Vance responded, “No, I don’t think so. Again, I think their system takes a long time to reach consensus.” He then shared Trump’s stance on trust during negotiations.

Vance recalled being asked last week if he “trusts the Iranians.” He relayed Trump’s answer: “I don’t trust anybody; what I do trust is my own ability to negotiate. I trust our administration’s ability to negotiate, and I trust the enforcement provisions that we’re going to get in place.”

The interview arrived amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran. The US launched new strikes on Iran on June 9 after Trump claimed Iran shot down a US Army Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz. Trump confirmed both pilots were safe and uninjured but stated the US “must, of necessity, respond.”

CENTCOM confirmed the soldiers were rescued within approximately two hours and remained in stable condition. A CENTCOM spokesperson told CBS News an unmanned surface drone completed the rescue, marking the first drone-assisted water rescue. Iranian officials responded sharply, with Foreign Minister Araghchi warning that Iran’s armed forces “will leave no attack or threat unanswered.”
