FBI Director Kash Patel is facing fresh scrutiny after a senior Republican lawmaker called for greater transparency regarding his travel and spending while leading the bureau.
The request is expected to focus on areas including government aircraft, official vehicles, and travel expenses, even as the FBI denies any wrongdoing.

According to RadarOnline, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has written to Patel. He requested records related to Patel’s travel, aircraft use, and spending during his tenure as FBI director.
Grassley, who has previously supported Patel, is seeking answers about why the FBI purchased BMW vehicles for the director instead of the Chevrolet Suburbans traditionally used by the agency. He has also requested details of every work-related flight Patel has taken. The requested information includes departure and destination locations, as well as the cost of each trip. According to Grassley, the information would allow Congress to conduct an “independent and objective review.”
Democratic lawmakers have also expressed support for the request. Representative Jamie Raskin and Senator Dick Durbin praised Grassley for raising such concerns. They said the request echoed issues previously highlighted by Democrats on the House and Senate Judiciary Committees. Their letter also referenced sources who allegedly described Patel’s travel spending as “out of control.”
The FBI has pushed back against the claims. Spokesperson Ben Williamson defended the BMW purchases as part of the bureau’s routine process of reviewing and updating its vehicle fleet. He also said the spending was intended to improve efficiency and save taxpayers’ money.
Patel’s spending has also drawn scrutiny in recent months. Reports have raised questions about his use of an FBI jet for a concert trip with girlfriend Alexis Wilkins and his participation in a VIP snorkeling excursion near the USS Arizona Memorial during an official visit to Hawaii. The FBI has maintained that both trips complied with agency policy and, where applicable, were connected to official duties.
Grassley‘s request marks the latest effort by lawmakers to obtain more detailed information about Patel’s travel, spending, and use of FBI resources.
