It’s Time To Retire This Real Housewives Staple — Opinion

As a society, it might be time to abolish Real Housewives taglines. Yes, they’ve been a staple of the franchise for the last two decades, but at this point, they feel more like an obligation than an event. The latest batch from The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 20 is all the proof we need.

In case you missed it, Bravo just unveiled the taglines for the landmark season, and aside from a couple of bright spots, they’re painfully forgettable, and we’re noticing a trend across the Bravoverse. If this is the best we can do after 20 years, maybe it’s time to let the tradition go.

The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 20 taglines are terrible

Of course, there have been some truly iconic taglines over the years. When NeNe Leakes declared she didn’t keep up with the Joneses because she is the Joneses? Legendary. Lisa Vanderpump telling us that life isn’t all diamonds and rosé? Instant classic. Hell, even Sonja Morgan proudly announcing that she sometimes has to go commando had more personality than some of the slop Bravo just served up for RHOC Season 20.

To be fair, not every RHOC tagline this season is a dud. Vicki Gunvalson, unsurprisingly, leans into her OG legacy with, “Wives come and go, but legends… we whoop it up forever!” However, the delivery falls completely flat.

Tamra Judge also understood the assignment by calling back to both her original tagline and one of her most iconic moments. She says, “I’m still the hottest Housewife, and that’s my opinion.” Sadly, she didn’t scream that classic catchphrase down the mic.

Those taglines work because they’re rooted in who these women are. They reference moments we instantly recognize. They feel authentic. The rest of the cast? Not so much.

For example, Jennifer Pedranti says, “The truth speaks volumes, and I’m about to turn it up.”

Okay … and? Gina Kirschenheiter is equally dull with, “Just because I’m spoken for doesn’t mean I won’t speak up.”

The taglines go on, but there’s nothing here that’ll make you want to text your group chat. These taglines exist just for the sake of existing, and, at this point, we’d rather see Bravo retire the tradition altogether than keep churning out one-liners that sound like they were AI-generated five minutes before the premiere. It’s time to put this tradition on pause, just like a Housewife who has run her course.

The Real Housewives of Orange County airs new episodes every Thursday at 8/7c on Bravo. You can stream them the next day on Peacock.
