Actor Ben McKenzie has revealed that he might trade Hollywood for a political career if the cryptocurrency lobbyists really get to him.
The O.C. star made the remarks while visiting Capitol Hill, where he testified against a major cryptocurrency bill.

McKenzie appeared on Capitol Hill to oppose the CLARITY Act. The latter is a proposed bill designed to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets. It also looks to define the roles of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Speaking to a TMZ executive, McKenzie was asked whether his frequent trips to Washington have the potential to launch him into politics. The actor replied, “If I get so mad, I might do it.” The outlet notes the tint of uncertainty and the fact that he did not outright refuse the suggestion.
McKenzie also blasted corrupt politicians who prefer taking money from cryptocurrency lobbyists before backing legislation that benefits the industry.
The actor has become one of Hollywood’s most outspoken critics of cryptocurrency in recent years. He started by questioning endorsements of digital assets during the COVID-19 pandemic. He followed this up with a co-authored book, “Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism, and the Golden Age of Fraud.” Since then, he has remained as a sort of crypto vigilante, repeatedly warning the U.S. Senate of fraud in the industry.
McKenzie has progressively shifted his profile to being a financial advocate. Political office remains an option for the actor as he may envision the furtherance of his fight.
The actor remains best-known for his role as Ryan Atwood on The O.C. He described his character as an outsider who takes revenge on North Beach’s elites. The role seems to seep into the actor’s real life as he continues to take on the powers that be in crypto.
