Meghan Markle Reveals the Documentary That Left Her ‘Misty-Eyed’ as a Mom

Meghan Markle opened up about a documentary that left her “misty-eyed” after watching it with Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex shared that the upcoming documentary Cookie Queens deeply resonated with them as parents, especially while raising their daughter, Princess Lilibet.

In an exclusive interview with People, Markle said the documentary reminded her of the importance of girlhood and helping young girls grow with confidence. She revealed that she and Prince Harry were moved by “the music, the cinematography, the honesty.” She added, “It made both of us laugh out loud and also feel such emotion as parents.”

Referring to a scene, Markle said, “I don’t want to give anything away, but there’s a very special moment when one of the girls accomplishes something she never thought possible”. She elaborated, “I get misty-eyed every time I watch that scene. She did it! I feel so proud of her.”

The documentary shows a group of Girl Scouts during cookie season. Meghan Markle, who was also a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout, whose mother, Doria Ragland, served as her troop leader growing up, shared that the project brought back childhood memories and made her feel connected to the girls featured in the film.

Speaking to People, Markle said, “These girls are our future leaders and amazing role models. Showing young female entrepreneurs, girls with financial literacy, skills that will set them up for future success, and learning how to work to achieve their goals is so inspiring.”

One of the young girls featured in the documentary is 9-year-old Nikki. Markle shared that Nikki comes from the same Girl Scouts council she belonged to in Los Angeles. She said the connection made the project feel even more personal to her.

Cookie Queens is the first theatrical documentary from Archewell Productions, the production company founded by Markle and Prince Harry. The film is set to release in theaters on Aug. 7 and focuses on the experiences of young girls as they navigate friendship, confidence, and personal growth.
