Rashad McCants revisited his short-lived relationship with Khloe Kardashian and claimed the romance never involved genuine feelings. The former NBA player also admitted he actually liked Kim Kardashian, who dated Reggie Bush at the time.
McCants, 41, dated Khloe, 42, for roughly seven months between 2008 and 2009. He said the intense attention surrounding the Kardashian family eventually pushed him to walk away.
Rashad McCants says he liked Kim while he was dating Khloe Kardashian
McCants discussed the relationship during a June 24 appearance on the TFU Podcast. The conversation began with the infamous “Kardashian Kurse,” which fans blamed for career and personal setbacks among the family’s famous exes.
“I don’t know, man, I didn’t get cursed. I got out,” McCants joked during the podcast.
He mentioned Lamar Odom, Ray J, Kanye West and Caitlyn Jenner while discussing people connected to the family. McCants then explained why he felt relieved about leaving the relationship.
According to McCants, the constant spotlight created too much pressure. He also claimed Khloe expected him to follow certain rules because cameras and fans closely watched them.
A Facebook update reportedly became the final straw. McCants changed his relationship status to “It’s complicated,” and the update quickly attracted media attention. He said Khloe confronted him about the decision, prompting McCants to explain his perspective.
“It’s complicated. You date me because you want me to help you do some s**t. We have an agreement. This is not, I like you, I like your sister,” McCants said on the TFU Podcast.
He then clarified that Kim Kardashian actually interested him at the time. Kim dated NFL star Reggie Bush, while McCants continued his relationship with Khloe.
McCants also described their arrangement as more performative than romantic. “I’m here for different reasons, so are you, so it’s complicated,” he said.
The former basketball player added that he eventually decided he had enough. “It got too much. I was like, you know what, I’m cool.”
Khloe and McCants split in January 2009. They initially blamed their conflicting schedules, but McCants later offered different explanations.
He left the NBA after the 2008-09 season, following a trade from Minnesota to Sacramento. McCants later said his departure reflected his mental health, while another account blamed unwanted Kardashian-related attention.
