Nick Reiner’s Murder Case Escalates With ‘Lying in Wait’ Allegation

Nick Reiner, who is accused of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home in December 2025, has been indicted. The indictment was issued on July 20 and unsealed on August 12. The 32-year-old pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder. He also denied the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait.

Prosecutors allege Nick Reiner was ‘lying in wait’ in the murder case as new details emerge

Nick also faces an allegation that he personally used a knife as a dangerous and deadly weapon, TMZ reports. If convicted, Nick could face increased penalties due to the special circumstances. Public defender Kimberly Greene, who represents Reiner, declined to speak to reporters after the hearing.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement, “This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing. The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait. We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.”

Nick began abusing drugs as early as age 15 and was reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia before his parents’ deaths. His sister discovered their parents’ bodies, and police arrested Nick a few hours later. According to Page Six, Romy Reiner, the couple’s 28-year-old daughter, reportedly found them on December 14, 2025. The LA County Medical Examiner’s Office stated both Rob and his wife died from multiple sharp force injuries.

Nick, the middle child of legendary Hollywood director Rob and producer Michele Singer, initially faced two separate first-degree murder charges. His next court date is a pretrial hearing set for September 15.
