Netflix’s New Dating Show Tackles Love in the GLP-1 Era

Netflix is bringing a new dating series to its lineup with Weight To Date, which will follow people navigating love and relationships after undergoing significant weight-loss transformations. The unscripted show will explore how those changes have shaped participants’ confidence, identities, and approach to dating.

The Intellectual Property Corporation, or IPC, will produce the series. Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman will executive produce alongside Jeanne Begley.

Weight To Date will feature around 10 to 12 people. Some participants will have experienced significant weight loss before re-entering the dating world.

The series will use a docu-format to follow their search for romantic relationships after they have reassessed their own identities. According to Deadline, the project’s format compares to IPC’s Indian Matchmaking, which ran for three seasons on Netflix and followed Mumbai marriage consultant Sima Taparia.

The project also has similarities to Love on the Spectrum, the Netflix series that has won seven Emmys, including two awards for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.

The subject has appeared in TikTok videos and has gained additional attention amid the growth of GLP-1s.

The order marked Holzman and Saidman’s first sale since they became independent. They left Sony Pictures Television only weeks earlier, where Holzman served as president, and Saidman served as co-president of the studio’s nonfiction division. The pair now serve as IPC’s co-CEOs.

Weight To Date also joined Netflix’s recent non-scripted orders. The streamer ordered The Leftovers, from Jersey Shore producer SallyAnn Salsano, about a group of friends from New Jersey. Netflix also ordered Arizona Hot from Banijay’s Brightspot Content, which follows a group of friends from Arizona.
