Justin Moore is opening up about a health scare that left him fearing the worst. The country music singer noticed a growth around his neck, which also led fans to raise questions about his changing appearance. Thankfully, doctors eventually gave Moore reassuring news. However, the diagnosis also came with a warning about treatment that could affect his career.
Justin Moore reveals a neck growth sparked fears of cancer before doctors determined it was benign
During an Aug. 19 appearance on TL’s Road House, Moore told Tracy Lawrence that he had dealt with health issues but stressed that they were “nothing life-threatening, thankfully.”
The “Small Town USA” singer then addressed the visible change around his neck. Moore joked about his “fat neck” before explaining that doctors examined the growth because they initially did not know whether it could be cancer.
Eventually, testing brought good news. Moore said doctors determined the growth was benign fatty tissue. However, they warned that surgery would be difficult because of its location and could affect both his singing and speaking voice.
The cancer scare also changed Moore’s perspective. He recalled leaving the hospital disappointed because doctors could not simply remove the growth. His wife, Kate, then reminded him that a harmless neck issue was far better than the alternative.
Meanwhile, concern over Justin Moore’s appearance had already surfaced among fans. Page Six reported that viewers questioned whether he was OK after seeing him perform in Virginia on Aug. 8.
Moore also admitted on the podcast that he had gone years without regular medical checkups. More recently, he has been focusing more closely on his health after seeking treatment for alcohol addiction.
For now, the Justin Moore fatty tissue diagnosis does not appear to threaten his health. Still, the experience gave the country music star a frightening reminder not to ignore changes in his body.
