Sandra Bullock Reveals Who She Trusted With Bryan Randall’s ‘Traumatic’ Diagnosis

Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has spoken about her experiences after partner Bryan Randall’s ALS diagnosis.

Though the late photographer had requested privacy, Bullock could not help asking for her friend Jennifer Aniston’s support.

Sandra Bullock says Jennifer Aniston was the first friend she confided in about Bryan Randall’s private ALS diagnosis

Speaking in SmartLess podcast, Bullock detailed what she faced after then-partner Bryan Randall’s “traumatic diagnosis” of ALS. “The Blind Side” actress revealed that Randall had requested that she not divulge the news of his diagnosis, which came in the early days of the COVID pandemic. “I wasn’t allowed to speak about it,” Bullock said. “That was the request, and I tried — I honored it.”

However, the actress confessed that carrying the “huge weight” of the relationship became too much for her. At that time, only her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado knew about it, but Bullock realized that she needed support.

She described the circumstances in dark terms: “When the physical illness was then coupled with the mental-health aspect of things,” she said, “That’s something that people don’t talk about … it was a trifecta that was pretty dark.” The actress was also in despair, seeing what the trauma was doing to the children.

She eventually reached out to a close group of friends – actress and friend Jennifer Aniston being one of them. Bullock’s strength of belief in Aniston stems from a three-decade-long friendship. Together, they have been each other’s support through the years. Interestingly, the actor Tate Donovan introduced them at a Golden Globes party in the 90s.

Following a three-year battle with ALS, Randall died at the age of 57 in August 2023. Bullock confirmed that the photographer was ill for half of their relationship. The actress also revealed that she had started grieving her partner four years before he actually passed. “My person left a lot earlier than the body left,” she said.

Sandra Bullock is an Oscar-winning actress whose career spans blockbuster hits such as “Speed”, “Miss Congeniality”, “The Blind Side”, “Gravity”, and “Bird Box”.
